Educational Programs

Listed below are some of the programs provided by our school district, along with a brief explanation of the program. For more information go to the Contact Our Staff page.

 

PRE-KINDERGARTEN ……………….. All day program that provides instruction for children identified through the Childfind process or who qualify through other agency referral and who are 4 years old on or before August 31 of the upcoming school year.
SELF-CONTAINED …………………….

  • Middle School

 

Very structured classroom setting for students at the Elementary and Middle school level. The classrooms are housed within certain designated schools in our district.
INTENSIVE LEARNING CENTER …..

  • Middle School
The ILC provides a segregated setting for students who are unable to function in a regular special education setting and who qualify for a more intensive setting. The elementary program is housed at W. B. Simpson Elementary and they work in connection with the school to transition students back into the regular and special education curriculum when they are ready. There are integrated middle school programs located at Fifer and Postlethwait Middle Schools.
TAM (Team Approach to Mastery) SETTING………………………………… Classroom staffed with regular and special education staff that consists of both regular and special education students. Instruction is given through a team teaching approach.
INCLUSION CLASSROOMS …………. Satellite classrooms located in many schools in our district that enable some of the Charlton school population to participate in regular settings for Art, Music, Physical Education and various other school activities.
CHARLTON PROGRAM ……………
  • Delaware Autistic Program of Caesar Rodney School District
  • Off Site

 

 

The John S. Charlton School provides the Autistic, Trainable and Severely Disabled programs for Kent County, Delaware. Also as part of a recent inclusion project, some of the classes are at Off-Site locations at elementary, middle and high school levels in our district. In addition to providing instruction during the school year they also run a special summer program.

Support is provided to the special education population for regular and special education curriculum.

 

TRANSITION …………………………...

 

 

Service provided for students aged 14 to 21 to assist in the process of going out into society. Assistance and guidance is given for employment, social interaction, etc.
VISUALLY IMPAIRED ………………..

 

Located at the W. Reily Brown Elementary school and services the entire Kent County.
